  • Normal Aging

    Oct. 01, 2011

Aging is inevitable, but how people age is different for every person. Regardless of the reasons for how a particular person ages, the goal is to maintain function and independence for as long as possible. The older person will focus less on a disease and more on how that disease is interrupting his or her lifestyle. For that reason, those who care for older people will focus on keeping them as independent as possible.

Lots of normal things happen to our bodies as we age. We now know that everyone ages differently, at different parts of our bodies. Some changes happen because of our genes, some happen because of lifelong health habits and some happen because of a disease. Also, an older person does not respond to the stress of an illness or disease as well as a younger person.
