- Dr. Avery appointed Chair of the AHCA Quality Committee

Fort Smith, AR - James Avery, M.D., Golden Living's Chief Medical Officer, has been appointed Chairman of the American Health Care Association's Quality Improvement Committee.
The newly elected AHCA Chairman, Robert Van Dyk, has appointed Dr. Avery to the position, which runs from 2010 through 2011

- Evansville Association for the Blind receives $500 grant from Golden LivingCenter
Nov. 18, 2009
The Evansville Association for the Blind has received a $500
grant from Golden Living Woodbridge, a long-term health care and
rehabilitation center. Judy Kerth, Woodbridge admissions
coordinator, said the business gives a grant to a local
organization every year. She said employees were moved by a
"Community comment" column about the association published in the
Courier & Press in September.

- Volunteers have essential role in hospice care

Jamie Wagner, 56, Exeter Township, got in a comfortable position
to push 91-year-old Lena Snyder's wheelchair. Suddenly, there were
smiles and laughter as if the duo were off to the races or at a
night at the opera or simply up to some monkey business. Jamie
Wagner, Exeter Township, is a hospice volunteer who regularly
visits Lina Snyder, 91, at Golden Living in Exeter Township. They
share a laugh as they make their rounds around the nursing
facility.

- Wish comes true for Golden LivingCenter patient
Nov. 10, 2009
Roberta "Bobbi" Stover's wish to spend time with dogs and give
each a treat came true recently at the HELP the Animals Shelter in
Richmond. Golden Living Center-Golden Rule resident Stover and her
roommate, Myrtle Killen, spent part of an afternoon at the shelter
as Stover's wish was granted through the Never Too Late
Foundation. The Indianapolis foundation focuses on making wishes
and dreams come true for people in nursing homes, assisted living
facilities, hospice programs and adult day care facilities.

age of 50, performs at the Golden Living Center in Frederick. The

- Golden LivingCenter Celebrates Grand Opening In Greenville, North Carolina

Golden LivingCenters recently celebrated the grand opening of
its new location in Greenville, North Carolina that houses over
150 residents with 72,000 square feet. Aegis Therapies,
a Golden Living company, will provide therapy services at the new
building. The new facility replaced the old Golden
LivingCenter which housed 152 residents in 45,000 square feet.

Buddy Gist doesn’t wear his suit anymore. He rests in a single
bed at the Golden Living Center, in a hospital gown, surrounded by
posters that remind him of the people he knew when he was the King
of New York.
Comedian Bill Cosby. Actress Diahann Carroll. Jazz man John
Coltrane. And, of course, Miles Davis. Miles and Buddy met in 1949
at Birdland, the famous jazz spot in New York City, and over time,
they shared a fondness for boxing, business, women, sharp clothes,
jazz and the horn.

- Former Golden LivingCenter nursing assistant becomes African king
Oct. 19, 2009
An African man who worked for years as a nurse's aide in the
United States, caring for the elderly and sick, is back in his
homeland to be crowned king of his people in the mountains of
western Uganda.
He was "very loyal, a very hard worker, a very private person,"
said Johnna Marx, executive director of the Golden Living
Center-Blue Ridge Mountain on the outskirts of Harrisburg.

Lexington - For an afternoon last month, staff and residents of
Golden LivingCenter of Lexington turned their home into a fashion
Mecca. Staff brought their own fashions in, as did residents’
families, for the residents to model in a fashion show.
Maybe Calvin Klein and Donna Karan didn’t show up themselves, but
their industry was well-represented.

- Kathy Holland named Statewide Administrator of the Year by the South Dakota Health Care Association.

Fort Smith, AK - Kathy Holland, Executive Director of Golden
LivingCenter - Milbank in Milbank, South Dakota, was recently named
the Administrator of the Year by the South Dakota Health Care
Association. Kathy has been with Golden Living since 2006 when it
acquires Beverly Enterprises, Inc., and for 22 years prior to that
with Beverly Enterprieses, Inc. She has served as the
Executive Director at Milbank for the past 11 years.

- Therapy dogs provide 'reason to laugh' for nursing home residents

The Hollidaysburg resident brings her 11-year-old Shetland
sheepdog to visit area nursing home residents and hospice care
patients at least once a week, making a difference in people's
lives, one smile at a time. Helen Kruise, an 82-year-old hospice
patient at Golden Living Center-Hillview in Altoona, is one of the
patients who relishes Emmy's company.

- A Walk to Remember attracts nearly 100 walkers

Despite competition from Vikings and Twins games, nearly 100
people turned out Sept. 20 to join forces to raise awareness and
funds for the Alzheimer’s Association as part of the 2009 Walk to
Remember. More than $1,100 was collected to benefit local efforts
to provide support, education and training related to memory
loss.
Sponsored by Golden Living Center, Gramma Jos and May Creek
Senior Living Campus, the event brought together seniors, families,
caregivers and friends for a casual one-mile walk and celebration
at May Creek Senior Living Campus to honor the work of the
Alzheimer’s Association.
