Joe & Lillian Parola

Joe and Lillian Parola have been together for 62 years, and that isn’t about to stop now that they’re both residents at Golden LivingCenter – Lansdale in Lansdale, Pa. They both share a room filled with precious items and memories from their past.
Most recently from Schenectady, N.Y., Joe and Lillian moved to Pennsylvania and have been at Golden LivingCenter – Lansdale since Spring 2008.
Joe started his career with General Electric as a steel worker and moved his way up to become a supervisor in charge of factory workers. He retired from GE after 31 years of service. Lillian also had a brief career with GE working in the payroll department. After that, she chose to stay at home and raise their four children.
Both Joe and Lillian find themselves surrounded by kindness at Lansdale. “They’re friendly people here. They’re very kind, and any time we need something, they’re right here for us,” Lillian explains.
Attending church is a favorite activity of Joe and Lillian, but bingo also sparks their interest on occasion.
Lillian prefers quiet activities and has quite an appetite for fiction. “I like to read a lot. That keeps me occupied,” she said. “I really like mysteries. I don’t like the lovey-dovey ones!”
Joe, on the other hand, loves a good afternoon nap in his easy chair. Of course, a really delicious plate of spaghetti and meatballs always gets him excited, too. Why? “The cooks here are out of this world!” he tells us.
The thing that both Joe and Lillian enjoy the most, however, is family. Their son John lives nearby, and he even helped the couple decorate their room with many cherished memories. Lillian has always loved surrounding herself with photographs of family members, and she is grateful to be able to continue doing so.
“Our son put up several shelves that made it possible for us to bring those pictures. I have pictures of all the family, and he also put up a bulletin board with pictures of our great granddaughters and some of our other family.”
What other cherished items did Joe and Lillian bring to Lansdale? A dresser and chest of drawers that they brought back from their honeymoon is still with them to this day.
Joe and Lillian are valued residents of Golden LivingCenter – Lansdale, and they continue to look forward to visiting with family and all of the fun times to come.
