Marvin Oen
Golden LivingCenter – Valley
St. Mary’s, Ohio
97-year-old Marvin Oen is a resident at Golden LivingCenter – Valley in St. Mary’s, Ohio. When talking to Marvin, it doesn’t take long to notice how much he enjoys living at Valley; his infectious laugh and friendly disposition speak volumes.
This Ohio native has lived a life full of love and hard work. After farming for 50 years and passing his two farms on to his sons, Marvin’s career ranged from wiring barns and houses to working for 10 years as a boiler operator. After retiring, Marvin’s generous personality led him to serve as a handy man of sorts. He spent his time doing various jobs for local widows - such as plumbing and house repairs - free of charge.
Now Marvin looks forward to regular Sunday visits from several of his 11 children. Around Valley, Marvin stays active. If he’s not playing cards or visiting with his roommate, he’s going on outings or telling one of his many jokes to the staff and other residents.
Another thing that Marvin loves about Valley is the food. “I gained 30 pounds since I’ve been here, so you know I’m eating pretty good!” he said. “I love the sauerkraut and sausage,” he explained. “When they have special occasions, they have great meals.”
Besides the great food, what’s Marvin’s favorite thing about Valley? “The greatest thing is the staff. They treat me so nicely,” he said. “This is a lovable place. It’s the best place I’ve ever found.”
